Climbing shoes typically fit tighter for precision on small holds—expect a snug fit without pain. Approach shoes should fit like hiking boots with room for toe splay on descents. We recommend trying shoes with the socks you’ll wear during activities. If you’re between sizes, size up for mountain bike and approach shoes, but consider your climbing style for climbing footwear.

Absolutely. Our Sleuth and Sleuth DLX models work great as casual everyday shoes while maintaining flat pedal performance. The Freerider series transitions well from trail riding to casual wear. Approach shoes like the Guide Tennie excel at hiking, trail running, and light scrambling beyond their climbing approach use. The durable construction and Stealth rubber make our shoes versatile for multiple outdoor activities.

The Freerider Pro features a stiffer midsole for better power transfer and impact protection on aggressive terrain. It uses Stealth S1 rubber (our stickiest compound) versus the standard Stealth rubber on the classic Freerider. The Pro also has a more protective upper with reinforced toe box. Both share the same proven flat pedal platform, but the Pro is built for riders tackling more technical descents and demanding conditions.

Clean your Five Ten shoes after muddy rides or climbs using a soft brush and mild soap. Air dry them away from direct heat—never put them in a dryer. For climbing shoes, brush off chalk and dirt after sessions. Store shoes in a cool, dry place. The Stealth rubber will last longer if you avoid unnecessary wear on pavement. For canvas models, gentle hand washing works best. Proper care extends the life of your footwear significantly.
